Style Diaries: Emma Watson

Friday, April 15, 2011

Since reaching her young adult years Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has become a firm fashion favourite, admired and inspired by some of the major designers of today, becoming the face of Burberry and adorning the covers of VOGUE and ELLE in the last couple of years. With every new Harry Potter premiere we wait in anticipation to see how Emma has transformed herself and she does not disappoint, experimenting in various fashionable styles.

Considering her multi-millionaire fortune, Emma certainly has her pick of designer garments and her recent short haircut definitely compliments her high fashion tastes. As the the British star reaches her landmark 21st birthday this week, Fl@unt celebrates some of Emma's most memorable fashion moments:

Black & Yellow: This Burberry minidress clashes beautifully showing off a daringly high fashion look for Emma here. Far from the modest clothes of her on-screen persona Hermione Granger, Emma reminds everyone who she is as a young fashion-conscious woman not afraid to fl@unt some leg.

Fluent Flash: Fl@unt's favourite look from Emma, this suggestive dress by Hakaan is playfully sexy and a great look due to its stunning simplicity. The cut-out is enough of a statement and so the colour of the dress is kept calm and cool paired with nude Louboutin heels to create a look of fluency. Emma adds fashion edge with a gold arm-cuff.

Evening Elegance: Worn to the New York premiere of last year's Harry Potter, Emma shows that less can be so much more in this custom made Calvin Klein dress. The cut is simple yet the dress still manages to drip with class. Emma adds the perfect shoes and the minimal amount of accessories to raise the fashion edge here.

Collar Crush: This dress is confusing as the top half gives the impression of a modest, prim look while there isn't much left of the bottom half - but this is why we love it! Emma once again modernizes the 'lady look' in this dress showing off her legs in skyscraper platform peep-toes. Burberry is clearly her friend as she wears a gorgeous studded Burberry trench coat to cover up.

From Catwalk to Celebrity - When it Works and When it Doesn't

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Don't you just hate it when you see celebrities gazing at exclusive fashion designs on the catwalk one week and then see them sporting the exact same garments the next? Ugh, those famous folk get all the privileges - however some high fashion designs don't translate as well as celebrities might have hoped, Fl@unt takes a look...

RIHANNA = TRANSLATES

A bold, contrasting outfit, teaming up a pink puffball skirt with patent lace-up boots, yet this daring look works for Rihanna's style and the simple slicked back black hair sets off the look perfectly.

CHERYL COLE = LOST CONNECTION

Cut-out dresses of the hip suit those of a curvier figure than Cheryl, as this dress only highlights her naturally straight-shaped body - not flattering.

ANNE HATHAWAY = LOST CONNECTION

The success of this dress depends on the choices of accessories around it and Anne frankly isn't edgy enough to carry off this dress as the model beside her.

FERGIE = TRANSLATES

This studded dress is quite the creation and looks absolutely stunning on Fergie, fitting her sexy, hard-edged image.

HOT LOOK: PETER PAN COLLAR

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Paying homage to the styles found in Disney pictures, the Peter Pan(/Mickey Mouse) collar, influenced by the the Disney version of the Boy That Never Grew Up and the fashion trend that occupied women in the 50s and 60s, is the current look of the moment.

Prim Collar                                                      Party Collar

Seen by an array of female celebrities on and off the red carpet, this look is super chic adding a nostalgic touch to some of today's modern female faces. The Peter Pan collar is not too crazy a look for us mere mortals to also adorn on the streets, so go ahead and embrace your inner girl.

Pop Collar                                                        Throwback Collar

Styling Out on the Stage

Monday, March 28, 2011

Nicki Minaj is currently on her first major concert tour throughout the US and has been sporting some wacky stage outfits - which is no surprise considering Nicki's typical colur-crazy, lycra tight fashions. What do you think her stage style?

The outfits Fl@unt can accept as part of the persona of Nicki as a crazy sexy female rapper, however the high-top wigs we cannot excuse. Fl@unt is all for change in the hair department, but the Nicki please ditch the Frankenstein hair!

Fl@unt takes a look at the hit (and miss) styles rocked by major artists on stage:

RIHANNA 'RATED R' TOUR -

Clearly by the name of the tour, Rihanna was going for the X-rated look and she goes full throttle with it, baring as much flesh as she can get away with. Make-up is flawlessly feminine with flushes of pink blusher and silver eyeliner contrasting with the hard-edged outfits - which of the two shown here, we prefer the pink.

BEYONCE 'I AM...' TOUR -

Beyonce experimented with various stage fashions on her last tour, sporting hard-edged leather armour for 'If I Were A Boy'and there was a general theme of structure in the shoulder and hip/bust areas to accentuate B's famous curves, adding a modern look to B's image. She loves her shine and feminine sparkle though, which was also used to full indulgence.

LADY GAGA 'MONSTER BALL' TOUR -

There is definitely a theme of daring-to-bare all-in-ones on the stage and Gaga pushes this look to the fullest potential. As explicit as Rihanna's outfits and possibly more sparkly than B's - Gaga, of course, takes her stage look to the most extreme level.

KYLIE MINOGUE 'APHRODITE' TOUR -

Like the goddess of love, Kylie spreads her love for her fans through her theatrical musical show following the theme of a fantastical, mythical Ancient Greece, fitting of the soothing nature of her current trancy sound.

Which stage look do you prefer?

Birthday Suit

Saturday, March 26, 2011

Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) celebrated her 36th birthday on the 25th of March in Las Vegas wearing a dress to certainly get the party started.

Although, maybe a colour not so similar to her tanned skin would have amped up the look, the dress shows off Fergie's ridiculous figure and we love the tassels added to the hem giving the dress a playfully sexy vibe - very similar to Rihanna's birthday dress she wore last month, however we much prefer Fergie's less outrageous choice.

Do you like Fergie's dress? Fl@unt has picked out the good (and not-so-good) birthday suits sported by other celebrities...

RIHANNA
       Cut-out nightmare                            Cut-out perfection

KIM KARDASHIAN
Kim please take our advice, shoulder pads are not for you - especially velvet red leopard print ones - stick to sexy silver instead

KATE MOSS
Two completely different birthday looks but because its Kate, she rocks the hell out of both of them
